EXAMPLES (Fauna) : Australia has a great variety of plants and animals. Animals include: Koala, eastern Australia Kangaroo, all through Australia Saltwater crocodile, situated in northern Australia Platypus ,eastern Australia emu, all of Australia mainly eastern Australia One of the most popular Australian animals is the saltwater crocodile and they are very interesting but these reptiles can be extremely dangerous, the saltwater crocodile is mainly situated in the Northern Territory but can be found in zoos all over Australia , crocodiles kill on average of one to two people a year . the Australian saltwater crocodiles are the largest reptile in the world in terms of mass (can be over 1000kg). Males can reach lengths of 6-7 meters and females 2-3 meters but that is quite rare to find a croc larger than over 5 meters. the crocodiles, eat mainly small reptiles, fish, turtles, wading birds but they can also kill and eat much larger prey. They are known to take wild pigs, buffaloes, and also livestock like cattle and horses. It is recommended not to swim anywhere in Northern Australia where it is known that crocodiles roam there, unless you enjoy risking your life. EXAMPLES (Flora) : Some unique plants that are in Australia would include: the Waratah, found in NSW , the Gum tree (eucalyptus) found all over Australia Acacia wattle, all over Australia Banksia serrata ( yellow spikes) Eastern Australia Kangaroo paw Western Australia There are about 170 types of banksia found all over the world The Australian wildflowers banksia serrata and popular garden plants are easily recognised by their characteristic flower spikes and fruiting When it comes to size, banksias range from trees up to 30 metres tall. They are generally found in a wide variety of landscapes damp forests , rainforests , and some more arid landscapes, not normally found in Australia's deserts.
